The Hospitalist Program Manager is responsible for the effective operation of the Hospitalist Program in regard to care delivery, quality and safety outcomes, employee engagement, patient experience, regulatory compliance and fiscal management. This role uses research and outcomes data to support the design, development, and implementation of processes and programs that improve patient care and stimulate departmental and organizational growth. The Hospitalist Manager creates and maintains a culture of trust that fosters teamwork and the continual pursuit of excellence in the provision of care.


Responsibilities

Management

* Provide leadership within the hospitalist program in order to ensure effective, efficient hospitalist operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality of care in a vastly changing health care environment.

* Responsible for creating a culture of innovation, learning, teamwork and professional practice, consistent with the mission, vision and values of UnityPoint Health.

* Establish effective mechanisms of communication with hospital staff, hospitalist providers, patients, patient's providers and the UnityPoint Clinic management team to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development.

* Demonstrate sound fiscal management of program operations through comprehensive budgetary planning, variance analysis/justification and regular monitoring of financial performance/productivity.

* Responsible for the interview and hiring process including completion of employment forms in an accurate and timely manner and coordination of orientation and training programs for new staff members.

* Schedule, conduct and complete follow-up for monthly staff meetings.

* Prepare and submit biweekly payroll reports timely and accurately.

* Perform other duties as requested by the UnityPoint Clinic management team and the providers to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the hospitalist program.

Clinical Excellence

* Responsible for overseeing the day to day management of the hospitalist program including the coordination of the program, establishment of work schedules, review of staffing needs, coding, supervision and training of staff in good patient relations and policies and procedures.

* Works with hospital staff to: Streamline care processes
Ensure early discharge planning
Facilitate the use of order sets
Collect data and disseminate information
Basic UPH Performance Criteria

* Be aware of what is happening in clinic/department and the organization by attending clinic/department meetings, reading emails and regularly checking information on the organization's intranet site.

* Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.

* Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management guidelines.

* Maintain compliance with Personnel policies and procedures.

* Monitor environmental conditions in order to secure protected health information.

* Behave in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance and HIPAA policies and procedures.

* Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

* Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

* Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

* Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

* Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

* Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.


Qualifications

Education

* Bachelor's degree in BSN, a medical field or equivalent combination of education and experience, or MHA
Experience

* Recent hospital experience.

* Previous healthcare management experience.

License(s)/Certification(s)

* Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

* RN or specialty license if required by medical staff.

* BLS if required by medical staff office
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

* Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills.

* Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment, decision making and problem solving expertise.

* Knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding requirements in conjunction with submission of insurance claims to third party payers.

* Knowledge of personnel administration and patient relation principles.

* Ability to work as a team member.

* Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.

Other

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
